Salt-laden air is the single biggest killer of ventilation equipment on the Yemeni coast, and it is routinely under-specified. Power Supply: Why Wide-Voltage Models Matter

Yemen's nominal supply is 220 V / 50 Hz, but in practice generator-backed operation and an unstable grid mean the voltage a fan actually sees can swing widely — sustained readings of 180–250 V are common, and generator changeover produces short spikes well above that.

Ask for wide-voltage motors (typically 180–250 V rated) rather than standard 220 V ±10%. The cost premium is small and it removes the most common warranty claim.
Insist on thermal overload protection. A fan stalled by low voltage will sit there drawing current and cooking its windings unless the thermal cut-out trips.
Avoid sensitive electronics where the grid is poor. EC motors are efficient but less tolerant of spikes. On generator-heavy sites, either stay with a robust AC motor or specify surge protection on the circuit.
Check the plug and cord specification against local practice at the time of order — this varies by project and getting it wrong means rewiring on site.

Dust and Maintenance Reality

Inland Yemeni sites accumulate dust fast. A fan specified on clean-air performance will lose airflow steadily as the impeller and grille load up. Two practical measures that cost almost nothing:

Specify a removable, washable intake filter or screen on fresh-air and supply applications, and write the cleaning interval into the maintenance schedule (quarterly is typical for inland sites).
